The People
Mark Hawes
I started working in Power Engineering and developed applications for pricing boiler plants and to assist in project management. I then moved to Energy Management and developed elements of real-time energy monitoring and reporting for remote sites. I also developed a pricing application for national grid electricity transportation contracts. In hospital administration, I developed a system for extracting healthcare details from the hospital systems to create billing for the multi-tier internal market created in the British health service.
I moved into banking, working on many systems for assisting in reconciliation and reporting of balance sheet and profit and loss, calculation of broker fees and systems to assist in collateral management as well as analysing work-flows for complex systems with multiple sources, often reducing production times from hours to minutes. In many cases the applications have been created by investigation of spreadsheet-based existing solutions and using that information to develop processes that require significantly less user intervention.

I started working in a small software development firm whilst I was still at university, working in-house and consulting. I worked on a variety of systems for a broad range of industries, including transport, legal, media and publishing. Having consulted and contracted at many small to medium-sized firms and well-known blue-chip companies, I have most recently provided solutions for large multi-national banks. Working in both small and large-scale projects to strict time lines, low-maintenance and integration with various disparate technologies were key components to most deliverables.
